The In-Home/Children’s Department is proud to spotlight Emily Brow for her hard work, dedication, and support that she has provided to our department. Over the past two and a half years, Emily has came to work by volunteering at Arc Human Services- Foxpointe Office, where she has contributed every Monday from 10am-2pm. Emily’s tasks have consisted of stuffing and labeling envelopes for mailings, alphabetizing and organizing documents, hole punching, and filing documents. Emily has stated that her favorite job duty is utilizing the copier and her least favorite is the occasional shredding.
Emily co
mes to volunteer every week and when she is ready to begin, she will complete the tasks asked of her without complaints. On Wednesday’s, Emily volunteers at the Children’s Therapy Center in McMurray, where she completes office duties such as filing, copying, shredding, making bags for the visitors, and other miscellaneous office work. Every other Friday, Emily volunteers her time at South Hills Interface Ministries (S.H.I.M) where she works on organizing the pantry and arranging similar items for the employees to easily find items they can provide for those in need.
Emily’s life doesn’t always revolve around volunteering though. Emily has a boyfriend, Chris, who she has been with for 5 years. Throughout the week, Emily keeps herself physically active as a member of a local fitness club, Monday night Bowling leagues, Acting Class, and of course shopping. Every Friday night, Emily has “Girls Night”, where a group of girls get together movies, snacks, gossiping, and games. She enjoys visiting her sisters and brother-in-laws, even though one of them lives out of state. Emily is involved in the Best Buddies program through Duquesne University and this year, Emily’s Best Buddy is Colleen. Every week the “Best Buddy” contacts Emily either by phone or text to check up and see how everything is going. Colleen and Emily spend time together each month attending different events like the “Best Buddy Ball”, different parties hosted by the organization, or just going out to eat together. Emily used to be a camper at Camp Laughalot and has stated that she met new friends with the experience that it gave her.
